This in-person course covers strategies to care for someone who is confined to their bed, including providing bed baths, peri-care, and skin care services.
Description
This is course # 2012 in IHSS Career Pathways and CalGrows. It is part of the Complex Physical Needs Pathway, which is a specialized pathway.
You may be required to provide care for a consumer who is confined to their bed. This in-person, hands-on course will help you better understand ways you can support the personal care needs of consumers who are unable to easily leave their bed. You will be able to describe how to maintain the dignity of a consumer while providing personal care, and demonstrate how to support a consumer with bed baths, peri-care, and skin care. You will practice how to make the bed while the consumer is in it and safely repositioning the consumer.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the basic personal care services you may need provide to someone who is confined to their bed
- Describe how to maintain the dignity of a consumer while providing personal care
- Demonstrate how to provide a bed bath, peri-care, and skin care services for someone in their bed
- Learn and demonstrate strategies for safely repositioning consumers confined to their bed
- Practice making a bed while a consumer is still in it
