Description
Working with a family member or friend comes with unique benefits - and challenges! This class will focus on understanding the boundaries of the caregiver's role and how to use the "pull back" method to self-manage stressful situations.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define the appropriate boundaries of the caregiver's role
- Identify areas of potential conflict between the caregiver and the consumer
- Explore how caregivers can use their knowledge and influence to support the well-being of consumers without overstepping the bounds of their authority
- Describe how responding emotionally in stressful situations can make it hard to listen well
- Identify two options for responding in those situations: reacting emotionally or pulling back from those emotions
- Explain that pulling back from emotional responses often leads to more effective and respective communication
- Identify situations that trigger an emotional reaction and recognize internal reactions to those situations
- Identify strategies for pulling back emotionally
