This instructor-led course covers how to support someone who requires assistance moving their body or walking, including the use of assistive devices.
Description
This is course #2040 in IHSS Career Pathways and CalGrows. It is part of the Complex Physical Needs Pathway, which is a specialized pathway.
You may be asked to serve clients who have difficulty with moving their body or walking. This may be referred to as a customer who requires assistance with ambulation. This class will help you understand the importance of supporting the consumer with mobility, movement, and exercise and serve as an introduction to some of the devices you may use when supporting consumers with these needs.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define “assistive devices.”
- List the types of assistive devices available to assist the consumer with ambulation and explain how they are used.
- List the types of assistive devices available to transfer the consumer from bed to wheelchair or chair and explain how they are used.
- Explain the role of the caregiver when assisting with special equipment.
