This instructor-led course covers the changes that many experience as they age, and how you can minimize fall risk whiel working with aging consumers.
Description
As we age, our bodies change in a variety of ways – and risk of falling increases. As a caregiver for an older adult, it is helpful to have a basic understanding of the physical changes one experiences as they age, so that you can better serve your consumers. This course will also help you understand of the role of the provider in fall prevention by sharing basic fall precautions and support techniques that minimize fall risk.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe at least six common physical changes experienced by older adults
- Describe physical changes to body systems that are caused by aging
- List ways the caregiver can assist the consumer to manage those changes
- Describe steps the caregiver can take to make the consumer's home safer
- Describe the impact of falling on the safety and well-being of consumers
- List five categories of common risk factors for falling
- For each risk factor, give one example of how the caregiver can help the consumer reduce the risk of falling
