English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses: Building Your English Skills for Caregiving
Welcome to our comprehensive ESL courses designed to empower caregivers with the language skills needed in home and healthcare environments. Whether your English is currently limited or you are looking to gain confidence when speaking or writing English, we have a series of ESL courses tailored for you.
Important note: These courses are hosted on a curriculum partner's website, EnGen. Upon registering for ESL with Homebridge, you will receive an email from us with instructions on how to access EnGen's platform and begin learning ESL.
Once you create your login on EnGen, you will be prompted to take a basic assessment that will place you in an appropriate class level based on your English language abilities.
This is a series of thirty-five courses from course # 2132 to course #2166. Each level of ESL has seven courses, all in the Adult Education Pathway, which is a general pathway.
Foundational English for Caregivers
If you're starting to learn English, this course will provide a solid foundation. You will learn essential vocabulary, basic grammar, and practical phrases to communicate in everyday caregiving situations.
Beginner English for Caregivers
If you have some exposure to English but are looking to develop the basics of spoken and written English, then this set of courses is for you! You will learn English, which is necessary to complete essential everyday tasks, such as shopping for food, accessing healthcare, finding places in the neighborhood, and communicating with others.
Intermediate English for Caregivers
If you have some basic English language skills, this course will improve your ability to understand and convey information in medical contexts and enhance your confidence in real-life scenarios.
Advanced English for Caregiving Communication
If you have relatively strong language skills and just want to polish them, this course- focusing on advanced homecare communication- will be great for you. In this course, you will learn to discuss complex medical topics, engage in professional conversations, and understand nuanced language commonly used in healthcare settings.
Vocational English for Healthcare Professionals
If you are looking to launch your career as a healthcare professional, then these courses will help you learn specialized vocabulary, and develop oral/written communication skills needed to be successful as a healthcare professional. These courses introduce the English needed to take an active role in the health care team, communicate effectively with patients and their families, assess medical issues, administer medications, and follow safety procedures.
